Composition dates:

Comments:
The initial title of this conte lyrique was to have been Crimen amoris, but Debussy, who was dissatisfied with the libretto, asked to sign a new contract with Durand under the title of Fêtes galantes. At this point Adrien Remacle, composer and novelist, claimed exclusive rights granted to him by Verlaine at an earlier date. Negotiations dragged on and Debussy gave up the project.
